I headed over to Antone’s with some friends late-night Wednesday, where it seemed most of the crowd was running on fumes and whiskey after their first full day of SXSW. Greenhornes came on, and the first thought I had was “They are a real rock band!” Nothing electro-synthesized with these guys. Their sound definitely has a 60’s vibe, but it’s not stuck there. One minute I’m hearing a bit of the Byrds, the next minute it’s sorta Dinosaur Jr. Patrick Keeler is a seriously kick-ass drummer, more recently known for his work with fellow Greenhornes’ bassist Jack Lawrence, Brendan Benson and Jack White in The Raconteurs.
