Here is this week’s dose from Chicago’s Tastemakers! Each week we check in with our 50+ Chicago movers and shakers to see what’s going on. Stay tuned each week to get each week’s wrap, and next week’s view!
Our weekly Tastemaker Spotlight is going to help you lovely people get to know our Tastemakers a little bit better, so they’re more than just a name online bringing you the hottest events the city has to offer!
This week you get to meet Jenae Williams. Jenae has been an out member of the GLBTQA fashion and event scene since 2002. Her company, The Chicago Dirty Girls, is known for holding down the longest running weekly lesbian party in Boystown, coordinating various events for The Gay Games and Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival. Currently she co-hosts performances from the world’s best known acts while holding a Thursday residency at the famed Berlin Nightclub with Stardust, a burgeoning cast of Chicago’s top queer promoters and works as an emcee for numerous other events.
What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
I stole a U-Haul a few days ago. I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet, but I’m thinking Stardust Boystown Barcrawl part deux.
Where would you never be caught dead in?
Any reeeal corporate mass marketed clothing store. I’m allergic to certain poly blends. Like all of them. Shop local, kids!
If you could go on a road trip with anyone (living or dead), who would you pick and why?
Lindsay Lohan. I wouldn’t want to take a road trip with anyone I admire because I wouldn’t want to be annoyed by any little thing they do. Lilo would probably hook that shit up. I’d have to pay for everything but she would score us great tables and lots of press.
What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
I heart camping. No, forreal. Shutup. I’m actually pretty good at it as well. I just went to Pearl Jam’s 20 anniversary concert in Alpine Valley and camped for the weekend amongst a field of mini mules.
What event are you really excited for this month?
I haven’t had a good Chicago night in a while, so All The Way Kay and DJ Trentino at Berlin this Thursday is gonna make me wanna wear appropriate juking attire. But all month The Pleasure Chest is hosting events for their 40th anniversary. I’m a part of the management team for The Chicago Store and we are doing everything from hosting a naughty knitting circle to having Cynthia Plaster Caster come and cast cocks or boobs with us! Lots of the events have complementary drinks and you can even win Erasure Tickets at our Raunchy Bingo Night Tuesday Sept. 13th!

Industry Insight with JMA
It’s incredible that Adele’s record keeps setting records, and is by far the top music story of the year. It’s unfortunate that she wasn’t at any of the festivals in 2011- hopefully in 2012! We are all very excited for Austin City Limits this coming weekend, where we get to have another great summer weekend in a Texas festival setting with our associates at C3. Generally, our staff has a variety of picks of bands to see- including Cults, James Blake, Yellow Ostrich, The Antlers, and it goes without saying Delta Spirit, J. Roddy, and Little Hurricane. We’re currently looking for a few more fall interns in artist management services, viral marketing, and radio promotion- if anyone is interested email lauren.jmapromo@gmail.com!
