Diplo is really good at getting me to shake my ass, and when he collaborates with like minded wizards I might need a day or two to recover. I had the pleasure of seeing a Diplo show from backstageat a festival a few years ago, and it was some of the most fun I’ve had dancing.
Fast forward to today, and Diplo’s work has infiltrated the mainstream landscape. He’s worked with everyone who’s anyone in music, and seems to show no signs of slowing down. Even as producers come and producers go, Diplo’s stock seems to always be in the major incline. Major Lazer is the collaborative effort of Diplo and Switch, but they’ve since parted ways. However, Major Lazer lives.
And what of them? The genre-bending twerk-inducing music that has legions of girls swearing they’re from an exotic island, myself included? I dig it. I dig the feel of it, I dig the videos. Not necessarily something I would expose my 6 year old homies to just yet. But still: good, sweaty, carnal fun.
I hopped my ass on the elliptical machine today and listened to the new Major Lazer workout mix. How thoughtful of them to provide the soundtrack to my summer prep workouts. This is nonstop EDM goodness, with the standout moment for me, being the Bounce Edit Benzi Refix of Macklemore’s ubiquitous “Thrift Shop”. I couldn’t help but run faster.
So yeah. Sweaty music.
Major Lazer plays Lollapalooza in Chicago this summer!
