Do312 About/Help

Who We Are.

Founded in 2010, Do312 is a website and social networking community built around all of the amazing events – like live music, street festivals, and other cultural happenings – going on in and around Chicago every day. When you sign up for Do312  – which is free and easy to do  – you can discover, promote, and create event listings. You can also buy tickets online, get venue and event details, and share them your friends on Facebook and Twitter.

But wait, there’s more! Do312 also lets you customize the types of info, like specific artists or venues, you want to track. Plus, you’ll get the inside line on hot ticket on sales, contests and other can’t miss Chicago happenings.

How Events are Ranked.

Do312 lists calendar events based on popular vote and recommendations by Do312 Tastemakers (bloggers, local media, and other movers & shakers. For more information on Tastemakers see below). Click “I Like It” to cast your vote for an event. The more people vote for a specific event, the higher it is listed on the site. So the most popular events naturally rise to the top.

Posting or Editing an Event.

We scour the interweb and get the scoop about events from major venues and promoters, but Do312 is really all about getting your events up and running and ready to be voted on.  So let Chicago know about your happening! First, register with Do312 on the main page or login if you already have an account. You can Click “Add an Event” at the top right of the home page, fill out all of the juicy details, and hit the submit button.  If you see an event that needs editing simply click the link next to the title on the event page. NOTE: You must also be logged in to edit an event.

Tips for making your event as pretty and effective as possible.

  • Don’t put the date, location, or time in the title: You’re already letting everyone know the when, where, and why in the other fields.  Let the title stand out!

  • Choose the “Repeat Weekly” option only if its the exact same event every week: If there are different acts or happenings that you want to specify, its better to make an individual event each week to make sure everyone knows what kind of awesomeness they’re in for.
  • Type slowly in the band and venue fields and take our suggestions in the drop down box: We have hundreds of bands, artists and venues on file with pages and videos connected to them all at your disposal.
  • Go nuts on the HTML: Are you a code guru?  Our description box supports basic html. Get creative!
  • Add a photo: As much as we like our logo or some of the venue logos, people much rather see a visual representation of your event.  Catch the eye!

Adding a Band Page or Editing An Existing One.

Are we lacking an artist you typed into your event?  Just click the “add your own” link next to the band field and get to entering!  Once you have created the band it will appear in the drop down box every time someone types it into the field.    If you’re looking at a band page that requires a little TLC feel free to edit it by choosing the link to the right of the name on the page.  If there is a bad video choose the link underneath the video on the page and send us a good one. NOTE: Currently we only support YouTube videos, sorry Vimeo users.

Duplicate Events.

Occasionally the event you are posting may already be on the site.  Congrats, its already popular!  When this happens there will be a link to the event that is already posted at the top of the page.  If this is the same as your event but you want to add more information, just choose the edit option on the existing event and add away. Do not submit a duplicate event if you can help it. This takes away votes for your events and divides information. NO FUN.  If its a different event that just happens to be at the same venue, check the create event anyway box and resubmit the form.

What is a Tastemaker?

These folks are the back bone of all the great stuff there is to do in this city.  They are the local media, the bloggers, the DJ’s, the artists, and promoters that we are so happy are making it their jobs to get us off our couches and out on the town.  They’re so good at it in fact, that we decided to give them a voice on Do312 for you to follow.  Tastemaker votes and comments on events are featured below the listing for perusal as are links to their websites. You can find the full list of tastemakers under the Big Stuff tab on the main page. Follow them, friend them, be one with them, and they will make sure you are in the know! Email Scott@do312.com for more info.

Guestlist Spots/Ticket Giveaways.

GUESTLIST:

We here at Do312 want you to have the hookup so occasionally we’ll set up guestlist spots for some of the best events in Chicago.  If you see an event with a guestlist offer, (you can see all of them at once though the link in the “Big Stuff” tab) click it for IMMEDIATE free entry to the event listed.  Be aware however, this only guarantees a spot for you alone, no plus one-age.  So make sure you’re friends get on there too!
